More signs of an early spring – Virginia Bluebells (already!)

More signs of an early spring – enjoyed the 70 degree weather on a hike with my son today on the Bull Run – Occoquan Trail and snapped a quick shot of some early Virginia Bluebells beginning to bloom – about a month early!  Also saw some Spring Beauties beginning to bloom, bringing some life back to the forest floor after a short and strange winter!  Looking forward to re-visiting in a week or two and seeing them in their glory.

Yesterday and today I checked out the Virginia bluebells along Cub Run in Cub Run Stream Valley Park in Centreville. They are nearly at their peak in the two areas I walked: (1) near the fairweather crossing of Cub Run (i.e. the stone pillars for stepping across by foot) in the gas pipeline area, and (2) upstream near the new footbridge over Cub Run. I also noted a small number of color variations: “whitebells” and even some “pinkbells.”
